OTITIS MEDIA

Ear infections (Otitis Media) are one of the most common reasons for pediatric visits to chiropractors in the U.S. as well as the second most common reason, after well child check, for a visit to the pediatrician.   The peak age for ear infections to occur is 6-36 months old.

Our chiropractic approach to ear infections is based on the neurologic function of the ear, restricted lymphatic drainage of the head and neck, cranial restrictions, nutritional deficiencies as well as food intolerances contributing to improper drainage of fluid and overall health of the middle ear.   During a typical visit for a patient with ear infections, the patient will be evaluated, adjusted per findings, have a craniosacral evaluation and treatment as well as lymphatic drainage as required.  The doctor may also make recommendations for supporting nutrients and/or eliminating foods that may be contributing to the fluid accumulation.  The doctor may also recommend and demonstrate ways parents can offer relief at home doing simple lymphatic drainage techniques and head posture techiques which can help encourage drainage between appointments.
